The Cosmodome – Earth’s Wild Ride

On the 2nd of October 2009, students from S3D went to the Cosmodome which was held in the school hall.

A lady called Sim introduced us to the Cosmodome and told how to enter safely. We were about to enter the dome but before we did we had to take our shoes off. When we entered we had to push the door a side and walk through slowly. All of a sudden we were inside the dark Cosmodome, which was filled with air, an apple laptop and a projector.

First we sat down and Sim started talking to us about what to do in an emergency. Then we started to talk about our star signs. Sim showed us stars in space and how they are represented and their meanings in a 3D IMAX experience.

After we finished talking we watched “Earth’s Wild Ride”. Earth’s wild ride was about a grandpa and two grand kids who are on the moon station in the year 2081. The grandkids were asking their grandpa about his life on Earth and what was it like when he lived on Earth. His grandkids had never been on Earth. After grandpa answered their questions he told them about how an asteroid effected planet Earth and may have caused the extinction of the dinosaurs. The Grandpa spoke about how life, water and plants started to grow once again after the asteroid’s dust finally disappeared from the atmosphere. As this was all happening, an eclipse was taking place, so grandpa started to explain how the eclipse starts and how it hits earth.

In conclusion S3D thinks that the Cosmodome show was great and a cool way to learn about our universe and planet.

Canberra to Sydney

September 23, 2009.

It was our last day in Canberra. We were excited to see our families again but some of us were sad because the 3 days went so quick! We woke up at 6:30a.m to brush our teeth and get ready to leave.

At 7:30a.m, we had breakfast. Our breakfast was baked beans and French toast. The people who didn’t like baked beans got spaghetti instead.

After breakfast, we went back, took the bed sheets of the bunks and folded them neatly at the corner of our cabins. we were lining up outside with our luggage so that Steven (the Bus Driver) could pack them under the bus. When everyone was on the bus, people were looking at the cabins from the window as that was our last time seeing where we stayed.

We were on our way to Questacon. When we were there, a lady came on the bus and told us the rules and stamped a Questacon stamp on our hands. When we went to the Questacon Centre it was so big and it looked fun. There were rooms filled of different kinds of science things. We went to ‘Natural Disasters’ room. In that room, there was the earthquake house, and other activities in that room. The best one in that room was that every 12 minutes, the lightning chamber would create lightning. The sound was really, really LOUD!!!!!!!!!! When we finished exploring, we were waiting for a show called ‘Natural Disasters’. When we were in, we learnt about tsunamis and earthquakes and other natural disasters. Then we went to the shops.

After that, Steven the driver, stoped in front of the National Museum to have our lunch. It was FREEZING!!!!!!!!!
When we finished our lunch, (rice crackers, sandwich and bottle of water) we went inside the National museum and lucky it was warm. We split up in our four groups and explored the museum. When we finished, we went to the shops.

At 2:00, we departed from Canberra. At the middle of the trip, we stopped and had afternoon tea, (chips and fruit). When we went back to the bus, Miss K put on the movie ‘Like Mike’ on the TV at the front of the bus.

After a few more hours, we arrived at B.S.P.S. and we saw our families waiting for us. When we went off the bus, we met our families , got our luggage, told the teachers that we are leaving and went home happily.

Canberra was a wonderful place to visit.

In and around Canberra

Tuesday 22nd of September 2009.

At 7:00 am we all had breakfast there was canned spaghetti, French toast and a sausage yum!

After breakfast we all hopped on the coach and were on our way to the New Parliament house. First we parked under the Parliament house, then up the stairs and through the security. Then there was a tour guide. Well that’s what I think she was. After that we went to the House of Representatives. We sat down and the tour guide talked to us about the House of Representatives. We walked around and went to the Senate and we talked a lot about the Senate.

At about 10:00 am we had morning tea then we got on the coach and went to the Australian Mint. We split up into our groups. When we got inside there was this machine if you put $3.00 in you would get a very new $1.00 coin. It was AWESOME! We went upstairs and saw how they made the coins and cents. It was so amazing! The teachers told us to have a toilet break before we watched the movie and when everyone got back we went inside the theatre the movie didn’t take that long. We all went outside to have lunch we got a roll, Oreo, a piece of fruit and water. It was nice.

It was almost 1:00 pm we went to the Old Parliament House. It was a bit like the New Parliament House but old inside. We had to wear white gloves and split up in groups we each got a box inside there was stuff about the Franklin River and some protesting information. After that we went to the House of Representative and we debated on whether to keep the Franklin River or builed a dam. It was really funny.

Half of us were in the old Parliament House the other half were on the coach getting an Embassy tour.

At 4:00 pm we went to the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport). First we went inside were the swimming pool was and the smell of chlorine was a bit weird. After we went to the volley ball court where the boys were so tall. We then went to the gym where there were weights, cycling machines, trampolines and heavy balls. After that we walked over to the place where the gymnasts trained. There were even little kids about 6 years old it was so COOL! It was so tiring but really fun at the same time.

We drove back to Eagle Hawk Holiday Park and we had a dinner of mashed potato, vegetables, beef and juice. When we had finished we went straight to Telstra Tower where we go up into the elevator and it was so fast and fun. When we there some of the people went in the gift shop and bought some stuff but then the lady said “There is a very big storm so we have to put up the shield so the tower doesn’t get hit by lightning. We all had to evacuate and the ride home was really scary but we made it. PHEW!

That day was very FUN!

BSPS vs BNPS Round 1

Go! Belmore South! Go! Belmore South!
People cheer whilst Belmore South play against Belmore North in a Softball game…
On the 29th of September Belmore South and Belmore North played against each other in a Softball match! We were played in Area 7. We split the area in half and started to play!

Belmore South were fielding up first, Belmore North were batting. As one of the Belmore South students pitched the ball to a student from Belmore North, they hit the ball and just before the person could make it to 1st base, Osman caught the ball, and they were out!

We watch the game closely!

Our team was going well, so was Belmore North!
We were going well, we got three people out!
Swap Over!
The game goes well for all of us, one of our sides one but the other side lost! : ( It doesn’t matter because one of our sides won! The netball game will be the BIG decider!

Jungle Bungle (A boy’s perspective)

On Wednesday the 26th of August there was a performance by Jungle Bungle. The performance was very exciting for all stages. There were dress up’s, hand stands and many exciting books to read. There were books like Captain Congo, How to heal a Broken Wing and Special Kev. They acted all these books to the stage1 to 3 classes. It was exciting and all the stages enjoyed the performance including us. The actors used speeches from books that were favourite children books 2009.The show was about a boy named Ollie who moves schools. One day he goes to a school and meets a friendly girl named Clare.

Clare then helps him find his way but at the end of school Ollie invites his new friend Clare to his house and Ollie has got a special compass. When they both return to Ollie’s house they play a camping game but somehow they end up in the JUNGLE!!!!! They both get lost and Clare gets mad at Ollie and screams at him, Ollie is very sensitive and get’s upset .He then wanders off into the jungle but left the girl behind. Clare then get’s lost and look’s inside her bag and instead of supplies she finds a book It was How to Heal a Broken Wing. She reads the book and feels sorry for a bird. Then all of a sudden someone jumps out and explains to Clare that you need to care about your friends emotions then he jumps back to the book then all of a sudden a gorilla jumps out and tells her about adventures, that they can be good or bad and he jumps back in the book.

Then all of a sudden Clare finds Ollie and they both feel better by Clare apologising to Ollie and making everything right .They then talk, but soon panic but Ollie says that his compass will lead the way but Clare doesn’t trust it because they are lost the compass leads Ollie to where his heart wants to so they go back home. And that was the end of the show Sarah thanked them on behalf of Belmore south.

Jungle Bungle (A girl’s perspective)

On Wednesday, 26th of August, during Book Week, our class watched Jungle Bungle in the hall.
The performance was an educational program. Some of the new books that nearly won the Children’s Book Of The Year
Awards were in the performance.

The performance was about a new boy that came to school and thought that he wouldn’t fit in. Then he met a kind girl and she showed him around. In the middle of the performance, the actors performed book characters from the books, How To Heal A Broken Wing, Sunday Chutney, Captain Congo and Special Kev.

At the end of the performance the boy fitted in and he and the girl became friends.

When the performance finished, the actors wanted for us to have a vote of the books (How to Heal A Broken Wing, Sunday Chutney, Captain Congo and Special Kev) by us clapping the loudest.
The most students clapped for Special Kev.

The performance was very good, but we think that it should be performed for kindergarten to year 2.
The performance was a tiny bit funny for a few people.

The Zone Carnival-Ball Games

On the 3rd of September, 2009 there was the Zone Athletics Carnival, it was held at Campbell Oval.

Robert, William, Jasmine-Leia, Lubna, Taarriki, Gogouli, Haley and Anna Were in the seniors captain ball and tunnel ball team. For the juniors there was Ricki-Teina, Rashid, Cain, Courtney, Jade and James.

The juniors didn’t make it to the finals for Captain Ball and tunnel ball. Unfortunately they came last!!! BOOHOO

For Captain Ball we came 1st 3 times, and we made it to the Finals but then we didn’t go so well we came 4th!!!

Later we competed tunnel ball. It was so bad because the ball was wet and it was a bit heavy. We couldn’t hear properly when it was our turn to verse the other schools because we weren’t listening. Our senior team was waiting for our turn but we could not hear the man properly because of the rain and Mrs Harrison sent us out but it wasn’t our turn. When our team sat down we were looking what teams there were but then we found out it was still the juniors playing!

Mrs Harrison embarrassed us! We had to go back to our school spot.
